Of all the self defense lessons we can teach you the most important is learning how to fall without getting hurt. We practice defense from the punch of an attacker, a grab from a kidnapper and a headlock from a bully, but the likelihood is that you are more liable to slip on something at the store or trip over a toy in the hall than you are to be attacked by an assailant.
Remember to not reach with your hands when you are falling! You are likely to sprain or break your wrists, elbows, and/or shoulder joints if you do so. Its best to TUCK and ROLL! Turn yourself into a ball and go with the fall rather than to try and stop it.
Increase the surface area of your body that is going to hit the ground by slapping the ground with your hole arm. DON”T LAND ON YOUR ELBOWS!!
We practice BREAK FALLS and ROLLS in class once and a while, but you need to spend time on your own to be proficient with these techniques to ensure that they become second nature.
REMEMBER THIS!
Fear is the Enemy!
Technique is the Armor!
